Title: Ichiroh!

Originally serialized in: Manga Time Kirara (Houbunsha)

Genre: Seinen, Yonkoma, Fan-Service

Kanako and her best friend Akane failed their college entrance exams and have enrolled in cram school to prepare to try again. Kanako makes a poorly researched decision about which dorm to live in and Akane blithely follows her lead, which results in them sharing one room in a dorm on shrine grounds and working part-time as mikos, or shrine maidens. In the second volume, Kanako also takes on a part-time job at a maid cafe to earn extra money.

Ichiroh! is a yonkoma gag manga with a focus on fan service. Kanako is the “dependable, older sister type” although she's not sensible enough to run from the insanity she attracts; Akane is a die-hard video gamer with a cat-ears hairstyle; Shino, a high school friend who actually got into college, is beautiful and desperately in love with Kanako; Mai, a new friend from cram school, is a glasses-wearing otaku; Kaname, a teacher, looks like a young girl and ruthlessly exploits her sexy image to sell photo books; Kanako's older brother considers himself Shino's love rival; the granny in charge of the shrine is conniving and takes advantage of the girls; and so on, hitting pretty much every cliché in the book.

Yen Press does a good job with the presentation of the books. They're slender, but the paper quality is high, the art is cleanly reproduced, and they included some color pages and cultural notes. The translation seems to be more faithful than mellifluous, since the characters sometimes sound like robots rather than real people.
