•Chinese Wins Japan's 1st International Comics Prize:: Lee Chi Ching's Sun zi Tactics took down 146 comic competitors from 26 countries and took home the International Manga Prize, issued by Japan's Foreign Ministry, given to those who help spread manga worldwide.

•Korean Manhwa Wins European Fans:
South Korean comic books started to advance into European markets in as late as 2002, but exports have rapidly increased. Daiwon Culture Industry Inc. (Daiwon CI), the nation’s biggest comic book publisher, began to export its products to Europe in 2002 and the export amount has significantly increased every year, to 370 million won (US$400,000) in 2004 and 620 million won (US$668,000) in 2006. • E-Book Market Expands, E-Comic Market reaches 19 Billion yen:
According to Seed Planning's report on the e-comics business, the market for comics via cell phone has now reached close to 20 billion yen. he study, conducted between March and May, was focused on comic publishers and distributors. From the report, the e-book market has tripled in 2006 from 10 billion yen to 28 billion yen; within it, comic distribution has rapidly increased, multiplying five times from 4 billion yen to 19 billion yen.
The main driving force for the increase in comic distribution is cell phone distribution. The e-book distribution on cell phone has increased from 2.5 billion in 2005 to 165 billion in 2006, with 87% of it being the comic market.
It is estimated that comic distribution takes up 68% of the entire e-book market, and it continues to grow in 2007. By 2012, the entire market will become 93 billion yen, with 74% of it being comic's.

• Shogakukan Topped Total sales, Reaching Over Kodansha for the First Time:
According to Asashi Shimbun, the total sales of Shogakukan and Kodansha has decreased in comparison to the previous year, but Shogakukan has only decreased for 0.8%, while Kodansha has decreased by 5.8%. The total sales of Shogakukan totaled to 147 billion yen, which is 14 billion yen more than Kodansha's. Most of the income comes from advertisement of young female fashion magazine, share from movies, copyrights and others.
In terms of income from movies due to copyrights, with series such as Doraemon, Detective Conan and Pokémon, has increased the "others" category of Shogakukan. It grew 30% from last year and reached 11.4billion yen and reached over Kodansha by 5.3billion yen.

• Local Government Helps Manga Artists:
Last August, the NPO Kotoba no Atelier started the Tokiwa-so project to provide low-cost housing for young manga artists. The NPO rented four old houses in Tokyo to accommodate young cartoonists. Rents in the communal homes run from 30,000 yen to 50,000 yen a month, including utilities and Internet fees. The artists sign yearly contracts, renewable for three years.

• Jinki Extend Revives After Being Pulled from Comic Blade
Along with a grand introduction and illustration, Dengeki Moeoh's August Issue, on sale June 26th, has announced that Jinki will be revived; more information will follow in the next issue. Jinki (renamed to Jinki Extend after the serialization was moved from Gan Gan Wings to Comic Blade), was suspended from Comic Blade in January after disagreement between the artist and the editor. Morning2, an infrequent magazine from Kodansha will become bi-monthly starting Vol. 4, on sale June 26th.

Comic High! reveals that Collector Edition of Kodomo no Jikan Volume 4, on sale Sept 12th, will have a 30 minute DVD supplement to it; 3980 yen.
