Anime News Network is reporting via Yomiuri Shimbun the Japanese government is working on an alternative to the canceled national media arts center.

Rather than a new facility, which had a reported cost of ¥11.7 billion, the government is now looking at existing institutions for collections and research.

According to the report, the proposal would cost approximately ¥250 million annually.
