Press release - 2006/18/02
Bemmu.com provides free manga for scanlators

Tampere, Finland, February 18, 2006

In an effort to give something back to the manga community, Bemmu.com, a
web store specializing in the import of Japanese language manga and
Japanese music to Scandinavia and worldwide, will be considering
applications to provide free copies of new manga to established
scanlators.

Bemmu.com does not and will not assist in scanlation efforts in any way.
The received books may be used in any way the receivers see fit. The
applicant may name one or multiple series for which they wish to receive
newly released books.

How to apply

Please send a free-form application by e-mail to manga@bemmu.com. The
application should mention

- Name or alias of applicant
- Name of the scanlation group
- Position of the applicant in the scanlation group
- URL to group home page or to a list of previous releases
- ISBN of the first book in the series for which the applicant
wishes to receive new releases for
- Full address where the new releases are to be sent

English-language site for bemmu.com can be reached at bemmu.com/e

Am I the only one who wonders what the catch is? An offer like this on the Internet is just too good to be true. ^^;

Certainly appears to be a ligit manga store (either that or someone went to an awful lot of trouble to put together a scam).

Maybe they hope to get some advertising out of it...

But either way, manga isn't *that* expensive. I wonder if anyone will bother to try it...

I'd be happy if there was a store in my country that would *sell* me Japanese manga, let alone give it to me ;-)

Maybe we should post something like: "Please let manganews.net know your experience with bemmu.com if you choose to participate."

Not if you live just across the Baltic from the guy, like some of us do.
But anyway, I don't really need anything in particular right now, so no testing it out by me.

(Plus, manga is pretty cheap anyway, yeah. Nice offer, though.)

Manga is not that expensive.. it's 410 yen, and i'm sure they get wholesale price on it... so it might pretty well be an advertising offer.
