Kou Kojima's Sennin Buroku celebrates its 50th year serialization, breaking the world record.
The 30th anniversary of Kochikame has become quite a topic, but it has quited down. In 1956, Weekly Asahi Geinou debuted. Within the 50 years since the start of its publication, grandchildren have been born to the founders of the magazine. In this issue, it's at chapter 2,477. Starting serialization with the debut issue, it has been running exactly 50 years. The Longest Serialization in the World Until now, the longest serialization record of comics has been "Peanuts" by Charles Schulz, which held the record of 49 years and 4 months. Senin Buroku outran it and has become the longest in the world. (Don't you think he should apply for the Guiness?) In terms of the record of the number of times a title has been serialized, Charles Schulz still holds the title, since it's serialized in daily newspapers, but in Senin Buroku, the story is still continuing after 50 years. How Famous is the work now... This manga was made into a movie in 1961, featuring Mayumi Ozora, Yoichi Numata, Akihiro Miwa, Bunta Sugawara. In addition, it became an anime and was Japan's first late-night anime for adults (it was aired at 23:40). However, according to a survey, the current popularity of the series is... "Do you know about the manga series Senin Buroku (or it's author Kou Kojima) which started serialization in 1956 on Weekly Asahi Geinou's debut issue and has approached its 50th year anniversary?" In a survey of 500 people... 14 said that they know neither of the author nor the series. 377 said that they do not know the author, but have read the series. 4 said that they know the author, but have never read the series. 38 said that they know the author, having read his other works, but not this particular one. 25 said that they know the author, and they have read the series. 3 said that they know the author, have read the series and own the tankobon. 5 said that they have seen either the anime or the movie 4 said that they know nothing.
